Here are two recipes with some of the best summer essential oils we used for a day and night routine for our trip. Perfect for everything from the days at the beach to those warm summery nights.
Our Favourite Post-Hike or Walk Essential Oil Body Mist
A great way to keep yourself cool during the summer days was a neat little DIY spray we carried around. Perfect for a quick refresh between strolls or hikes. Feeling too hot and sweaty? No worries, just spray a bit of this and trust me, you will come back to life.
If you ever wanted to know what essential oils make a beachy scent, this DIY spray captures its brightness in just a few steps. Check out the recipe and instructions below. You can also swap it out for your favourite essential oils or essential oil blends:
Ingredients
Note: This makes 100 ml
100 ml distilled water (or rose water for extra freshness)
1 tsp witch hazel (helps disperse the oils)
6 drops Peppermint essential oil (for cooling)
5 drops Sweet Orange essential oil (for mood and energy)
3 drops Lavender essential oil (for calm and balance)
1 drop Geranium essential oil (optional, adds a floral, summery touch)
How to Make Your Own Summer Essential Oil Body Spray:

Add witch hazel to the spray bottle.

Add the essential oils and swirl gently to mix.

Top up with distilled or rose water.

Shake well before each use.
These were super easy to make and great to carry for a quick spray when we went to Bondi Icebergs.
Our Bug-Repelling DIY Night Cream
For those balmy nights, having a nice soothing cream to wind down and keep bugs away through the night is a must!
That’s why we made this recipe for a super easy DIY night cream. Give it a try:
Ingredients
Note: This makes ~120 ml
2 tbsp shea butter
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp beeswax pellets
1 tbsp sweet almond oil or jojoba oil
6 drops Lavender essential oil
4 drops Geranium essential oil
3 drops Cedarwood essential oil
2 drops Lemongrass essential oil
Optional: 1 drop Patchouli or Vanilla (for added depth)
How to Make Your Own Bug-Repelling Cream:

In a double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over simmering water), melt the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax together until fully liquid.

Remove from heat and stir in the sweet almond oil.

Let it cool slightly until it starts to thicken (but not solidify).

Add the essential oils and stir well.

Pour into a clean glass jar and let it set completely at room temperature or in the fridge.
