Like many other oils, Geranium essential oil was first used by the early Egyptians, who found the oil effective to promote healthy skin and balance anxious emotions. Though there are nearly 700 varieties of the Geranium plant found throughout South Africa, Russia, and Egypt, only 10 can produce essential oil in any significant quantity. The highest quality Geranium is produced in Reunion, and island far off the coast of Madagascar.
The highest quality form of Geranium produced in Reunion, called Bourbon Geranium, is a green-olive colour that boasts a rosy-sweet scent with hints of mint.
