The Calendula flower, most often known as the marigold, has been used since ancient times for a number of purposes. The ancient Egyptians appreciated the marigold for its rejuvenating properties, and the Hindus would adorn their statues with the flower. Calendula also has a history of being used as a food to add flavour and colour to bland cereals, rices, and soups. In the mid-20th century, scientists discovered that calendula can treat a number of skin conditions like cuts, burns, and minor infections. The calendula flower, which is native to Southwestern Asia, also grows annually in northern Mediterranean countries and Western Europe. With fiery red and yellow petals of the marigold flower are placed through steam distillation in order to extract Calendula oil. However, it’s impossible obtain every bit of oil, so it must be infused with another oil to assist in the distillation. This Calendula oil is infused with Sunflower oil, which is obtained from the seeds of the sunflower and known as a powerful skin emollient. Calendula oil is a very sticky and viscous oil with a very unique smell that can be described as musky and woody. It offers a number of important properties including an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, tonic, sudorific, emmenagogue, and antispasmodic. High quality Calendula oil infused with Sunflower oil is a very powerful oil when used on the skin. In addition to moisturising dry and severely chapped skin, it can also reduce pain by minimising inflammation on sprained muscles and bruises. It’s a gentle oil, so it’s even a great choice to relieve diaper rashes on babies. Eczema, psoriasis, and other skin issues can also be soothed by applying Calendula oil infused with Sunflower oil. Calendula oil can be used in many forms, so it makes a great base for lotions, salves, creams, and natural cosmetics. It blends nicely with Frankincense, Rose Otto, Cypress, Lavender, and Lemon essential oils for powerful results.
