There’s nothing worse than jumping out of bed in the morning with 15 minutes to spare before you have to rush out the door.
You run around trying to get everything together, and you’re lucky if you have time to take two bites of your toast and a sip of your coffee.
Doesn’t sound like fun does it?
Your mornings should be a time where you tend to yourself and no one else. It should be a time when you prepare yourself for the rest of your day.
Unfortunately, most people wake up with no time for themselves which leads to increased stress and anxiety throughout the rest of the day. Not good!
So, how do you fix that?
How do you wake up each morning and get yourself ready to tackle whatever the day has in store for you?
It’s as simple as creating morning habits. We’ve put together 5 of our favourites, but if you find only one or two that work for you, go right ahead and use it. It’s all about doing what makes you feel good.
As you wake up, your mind is rested and is probably as calm as it will be for the day ahead, so this is the best time for meditation. Some people prefer sitting in silence, while others reap the benefits from a guided meditation or even a chanting meditation. This is the time you can use to set your intentions for the day, before your mind starts to race thinking about everything that awaits you.
DON’T TURN ON YOUR PHONE
It’s tempting I know, most of us do it, but as you wake up don’t let your phone be the first thing you check. You’ll instantly be overloaded by the latest news, gossip, and whatever else your timeline is feeding you. By keeping your phone out of the bedroom, you reduce the risk of spending too much time scrolling aimlessly through social media which has many negative effects on our mental health. Not a good way to start your day.
LISTEN TO YOUR FAVOURITE MUSIC
By turning on your favourite playlist in the morning, you allow yourself to be open to experiencing the positive feelings and memories tied to those familiar songs. Turn on your tunes while you make a healthy breakfast, or while you take your morning shower. And there’s nothing wrong with busting out a few moves!
SPEND 30 MINUTES DOING ONE THING YOU LOVE
This can be writing in your journal, playing the guitar, or even early morning gardening. When you wake up and do something that simply makes you happy, even for just 30 minutes, your mood will improve, you’ll feel fulfilled, and set yourself up for a productive day.
INHALE UPLIFTING SCENTS
What we smell has a direct impact on our emotions, so waking up in the morning and smelling something that makes you feel uplifted is sure to be a great start to your day! A simple way to make the most of scents is to place a few drops of essential oil into a diffuser and have it turned on in your bedroom as you wake up.
A few of our favourite uplifting scents to get you started in the morning on a positive tone are:
